Migrant, Refugee and Displaced Women and Girls

Women Graduates–USA is a nonprofit organization whose members are college and university graduates, graduate students, doctoral candidates and post-doctoral researchers. As members of WG–USA, our members are also members of Graduate Women International; WG–USA is the US Affiliate of GWI. Our international perspective informs our advocacy for social, educational and economic justice for all women and girls.

At its core, WG–USA strives to create a positive impact on the economic, social and political issues affecting women and girls, and to advocate for policies and legislation that supports education, equality, human rights, and safety and security. Women Graduates–USA advocates for the safety of and respect for women and girls impacted by war and violence in communities and countries.

WG–USA builds member awareness of international and domestic refugee and migrant human rights violations that impact women and girls. WG–USA keeps members informed of the United Nations, Graduate Women International, like-minded non-government organizations and government resources that work to monitor and improve the stability and quality of life for refugees and displaced women and girls.

WG–USA believes that refugees, migrant and displaced women and their families should receive equal protection, assistance, and opportunity for resettlement regardless of nationality, religion, or race.  Travelers with visas and green cards should have unhindered access to education, their families, and employment opportunities.

With passage of US Resolution 2011.2.R4 “The Dream Act”, WG-USA supports and advocates for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). DACA provides for the protection of migrants, refugees and displaced persons from deportation and offers steps to citizenship.

WG–USA believes that foreign student exchanges should be encouraged.  Foreign students must have free access to travel between the United States and their home country without threat of access to re-entry.

Through its partnership with the Institute of International Education – Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF), WG–USA has joined others to support women scholars and researchers fleeing from extreme repression and danger in Afghanistan. Recent recipients of WG–USA support have engaged with various colleges/universities in North America.
