Former UN Women Director, Michelle Bachelet, Will Head WHO Maternal and Child Health Program

Current President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, will take the post of Board Chair of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health when her presidential term is finished in March. President Bachelet was also the first Executive Director of UN Women before becoming her country’s President for the second time (2006 – 2010 and 2014 – 2018). The aim of the Partnership is to provide academic establishments, nongovernmental organizations, health care professional associations and other institutions a platform to improve maternal, newborn and child health by coordinating strategies and resources across the globe.

In addition to her long time advocacy for women and children, President Bachelet holds a medical degree in surgery with a specialty in pediatrics and public health.
