We are an online organization seeking membership from women graduates who have an interest in issues affecting women and girls worldwide. WG-USA is the USA affiliate of Graduate Women International (GWI), the leading girls’ and women’s global organization run by and for women, advocating for women’s rights, equality, and empowerment through access to quality education and training .
Membership in WG-USA includes membership in GWI.
What makes us different from other organizations?
WG-USA focuses on women’s issues that have an international impact, related to women in all parts of the globe. We hold strongly the view that by talking to, learning from, and networking with women around the world, we will be leaders in creating a global society where the gifts, abilities, insights, and knowledge of women are respected and valued.
Women Graduates-USA seeks its membership from graduate women living in the United States and Canada, or U.S. citizens living abroad, who are interested in international issues concerning women and children.
Our membership is scattered across the country and as such there are no localized groups.
What are our priorities?
Program and Advocacy
The WG-USA program for action and advocacy relates to its mission for a variety of women’s issues that focus on raising awareness about human trafficking, education for women and girls worldwide, and violence against women.
WG-USA also provides its members with opportunities to influence U.S. federal legislation, specifically as it relates to our mission, programs, and advocacy goals.
Ratification of the Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
WG-USA has adopted (CEDAW) as its framework for action and is working toward achieving its ratification by the United States, one of a handful of nations that has not ratified this important document. The absence of total support undermines its final ratification and leads to the unwillingness, on the part of other nations, to provide urgently needed support for problems which women face worldwide.
Women, Peace and Security
WG-USA focuses on the United States Action Plan for Implementing UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security and emphasizes non-violent efforts as a solution to conflict resolution.
WG-USA and the United Nations
WG-USA, by its membership in GWI, provides opportunities for member participation on a variety of issues. These involve United Nations (UN) Agreements, UN Conventions and Declarations, and UN policy discussions relating to the Sustainable Development Goals and the SDG 2030 Agenda and the Beijing Platform for Action (Beijing +20).
