The Manchester Task Force

Disappointed with the American Association of University Women's (AAUW) decision in 2004 to discontinue their financial commitment to IFUW, a small but dedicated group of American women, calling themselves IFUW SUPPORT, with deep international interests, met in cyberspace after the IFUW Triennial in 2004 to discuss all the options available to continue an IFUW presence in the USA. The group organized an ad hoc meeting at the AAUW Convention in Phoenix in July 2007 to discuss the possibility of forming a brand new USA affiliate of IFUW. The response was overwhelming.

After the July meeting, e-mail inboxes buzzed with messages of support and interest. A group of dedicated globally-focused women graduates from the USA attended the IFUW Triennial meeting in Manchester, England in August of 2007 as 'international IFUW members'. There they held the first organizational meeting to form a new affiliate  of IFUW. Calling themselves Women Graduates USA, this group of women will become the charter members of the new organization. Interim leadership was appointed until the organization can be incorporated, at which time board elections will be held. A fee structure for membership will be determined in January of 2008.

Membership will be offered to any woman living in the United States with a university degree and/or meeting IFUW's requirements for membership. We hope to attract women with an interest in international issues for women such as gender equity, education, leadership development and vocational training.
