Moving Our Minds...
the World’s in Motion
To examine the issues affecting women today, as well as issues which are emerging and will surely affect women profoundly in the future, an examination of the historical, political, and personal context in which this change is occurring is needed. If fifty per cent of the women of the African continent are migrating today, and if migration occurs in both Eastern and Western hemispheres, no woman, standing on any piece of this planet earth is unaffected. The affect may be sociological, economic, or it may be educational; it is often legal or personal, but it is certainly not singular, nor solely national. To understand these emergent issues will certainly require us to be willing to “move our minds” to a different way of looking at issues, i.e. to “see” as others may “see” half way round the world!
The Beijing Conference on Women identified “Twelve Critical Areas” in its final documents. This AGM conference will consider several issues which, while identified in the Beijing Platform, have grown towards new and different directions for women in the United States.
