WG-USA resolutions have been adopted and voted on by our membership to provide organizational policy regarding advocacy and actions that adhere to the mission and principles of our organization.
These resolutions will provide a framework within which our members can advocate on women’s issues. Members are asked to refer to the WG-USA Resolutions when writing in public on behalf of the organization .
1. CEDAW.
The United States is one of a few nations which has not ratified the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
Ratification of CEDAW would strengthen the role of the United States as a global leader in standing up for women and girls in countries around the world. Women Graduates-USA urges the U.S. Senate to take action immediately on this convention.
2. THE DREAM ACT.
WG-USA resolves to encourage action and support among its members and other citizens for the passage of the U.S. Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (Dream Act). We urge passage of this legislation at both the national and state levels of government in order to improve the opportunities of alien minors brought into the United States as children from other countries.
3. PEACE RESOLUTION.
Be it resolved that WG-USA will appoint a Working Group on Women and Peacemaking that will focus on implementation of United Nations Resolution #1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (2000) and #1366 on the role of the Security Council in the Prevention of Armed Conflicts. The Working Group will also study U.N. Security Council Resolutions #1820, 1882, 1888, and 1889 as to their applicability for WG-USA actions, and the Working Group will recommend to the WG Board activities and/or advocacy which might be undertaken by the membership.
4. RE-AUTHORIZATION OF THE 2000 TRAFFICKING VICTIMS PROTECTION ACT (TVPA), SB 1301.
WG-USA recognizes that re-authorizing the TVPA by the U.S. Congress is crucial to sustaining and expanding essential programs that are provided by the TVPA, from locating and protecting victims of trafficking to bringing human traffickers to justice. The WG-USA Board asks all of its members to urge their Senators and Representatives to support the re-authorization of the nation’s strongest tool to combat human trafficking. Trafficking is a modern form of slavery which must be ended.
I can do right where I live, right now.
